(HOLYOKE) — Former Congressman Joe Kennedy III has endorsed current Town Administrator Joshua A. Garcia for Mayor of Holyoke.
“Holyoke has always had a special place in my family’s heart. I am proud to endorse Josh Garcia today, who I believe embodies the very best of the City and its potential. From housing, to public safety, to public schools, Josh has dedicated his career to helping his community connect, build and grow together. He is thoughtful and innovative, putting politics aside to get things done for the families that call this region home. And representation matters; especially in local government. I look forward to celebrating Holyoke’s first Latino Mayor next Tuesday!”
The Kennedy family has long had a strong connection to Holyoke and it’s vibrant Irish community. Whether it was Holyoker Anne Sullivan, a close friend of President John F. Kennedy, who Senator Ted Kennedy dubbed “the first lady of labor,” or the John F. Kennedy National Award that is awarded by the St. Patrick Parade Committee and which JFK himself received along with his brother Ted, or the bust of President Kennedy donated by that same committee on the corner of Suffolk and Appleton in which Joe’s grandfather, Robert Kennedy, sent a telegram outlining the special place Holyoke had in the late President’s heart.
“Having a Kennedy endorse your candidacy is surreal. I have a deep respect for Joe and he and his family’s long legacy of and passion for public service. It’s pretty much unmatchable. I’m deeply humbled by his support.” glowed Garcia.
Joe will join Joshua on Wednesday, October 27th at 12:00pm for an early vote rally beginning at 289 High Street before moving to City Hall. Press is invited for a short program and availability.
